Oil on canvas. 28 X 22 cm. Inv. No 786 Vernet's Cavalcade is a sketch for the picture Festival at Tsarskoye Selo (in the possession of the museum in the town of Pushkin, near Leningrad), portraying Nicholas I and his family in fancy dress on horseback. The sketch was made during the artist's second visit to St Petersburg in 1842—43. Provenance: until 1918 The Bariatinskys Collection, St Petersburg — Petrograd; since 1924 The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow
